The Temple Planning Board on May 5 reviewed a schedule for updating chapters of the town’s Master Plan and set a goal to have selected chapters ready for public hearings in September. Board members identified outdated maps and specific chapters for revision and assigned follow-up tasks.
Board Chair Russ Huntley opened the Master Plan discussion by reviewing when each chapter was last updated and the timeline for public hearings. Christine Robidoux said the Aquifers map should be replaced with the version in the 2023 Natural Resources Inventory, and the board agreed. The Vision statement had been reviewed by the 2024 HOP grant committee, which recommended it remain unchanged; the board decided only to revise the year on that entry to 2024.
Members singled out older chapters for review including Community Facilities, Construction Materials (noting there are currently no active gravel pits), and Historical Resources. The board also noted the community facilities map—showing town-owned properties—needs updating. Members said updates should be ready for public hearings in September and that community input will be sought for Open Space while the Complete Streets project will inform Transportation chapter revisions. Christine offered to produce initial MS Word documents for the first five pages; Randy Martin said he would contact Alan Pickman to obtain original Word files if available.
The board discussed the Master Plan road map, noting it is no longer accurate; Kent Perry reported that the North Road bridge had been previously red-listed and said he would verify whether that status has been resolved. Randy Martin summarized takeaways from the 'Hard Road to Travel' workshop and noted legislative discussion about private road standards; Kent suggested adding an update to road standards to the board’s tabled business. The board agreed to continue the Master Plan work session at a future meeting.
Next steps: board members will complete the edits and gather supporting maps and files for review; the board plans to hold public hearings on updated chapters in September.
