"You've done such a fantastic job and expanded services and celebrations by our community," Mayor Houston said as she declared July 20, 2026, "Lisa Graham Morris Day." The proclamation also noted Morris's role securing grant funding, creating arts funding policies and serving on the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee that helped secure a Purple Heart City designation on the National Purple Heart Trail.
Morris, responding to the proclamation, said the work has been a passion: "It's been a great career. I counted up, like, 40 years total starting with my first job as a lifeguard at Bastrop State Park," she said, adding that her accomplishments were a team effort. A coworker offered brief tributes to Morris's upbeat office presence and longstanding service.
The proclamation closed by encouraging the community to recognize Morris's contributions. No formal council action or vote accompanied the ceremonial proclamation; the event was presented as part of the meeting's ceremonial items.
