East Lyme zoning commission forms subcommittees to study data centers and Black Point zoning

Commissioners discussed whether a text amendment or an outright prohibition would be the correct tool and agreed to form a subcommittee to gather data and propose next steps; the motion passed by voice vote.
Separately, a commissioner proposed studying a zoning change for a stretch of Black Point Road to convert a mixed residential-commercial area into residential-only zoning to avoid unwanted mixed-use outcomes under new state mandates. Commissioners approved creating a subcommittee to prepare a draft text amendment and to examine how existing nonconforming businesses would be affected.
Both subcommittees were described as fact-finding groups that will report back with recommended language and, if warranted, proposals for public hearings.
