Mansfield Library finalizes "Plant a Seed, Read!" summer reading program and schedules special events

Mansfield Library Director Elizabeth Crooker outlined the library's 2026 program calendar and said registration for the summer reading program, themed "Plant a Seed, Read!", opens May 18. The theme emphasizes nature, gardening and food-related activities and will include drop-in events and regular Friday meetings.
Crooker said the library will host two special programs this summer: Read with Snoopy the Rabbit and "Mysterious Mushrooms" presented by Susie Spikol. She also noted a co-sponsored American History Trivia Night on Sunday, June 14, produced with the Recreation Commission; promotional flyers will be released in the coming days.
Earlier spring events drew modest attendance: Tea Club kits (20 kits claimed in April, seven for May remain), Star Wars Day saw 16 light-saber crafts and nine raffle entries, the Big Watch drew 10 attendees, and Book Club and Monday Matinee attendance was low (three attendees for Book Club in April, Monday Matinee had three in April and none in May). Storytime has concluded for the spring.
Crooker reported the library completed catalog and circulation testing ahead of a planned go-live with the Biblionix system; staff identified legacy category abbreviations (for example, "AF" and "F") that need cleanup and said staff passwords must be updated before linking the catalog on the website. She also reported a recent weeding of the medical/health collection because many titles were out of date and that one children's-room chair will be replaced after being deemed beyond repair.
On circulation, Crooker said April 2026 circulation was 625 items, essentially unchanged from April 2025 (628). She noted she will be away July 7'9 and asked trustees whether the July meeting could be rescheduled; trustees later adjusted the meeting calendar.
