Temple Select Board to draft policy for town flyers after police flag inaccuracies

The Temple Select Board said on May 12 it will develop a formal policy for townwide flyers after concerns were raised about an unowned mailing that contained inaccurate information, officials said.
Ken Caisse, presiding, said the board received feedback from the police department indicating "there were several things noted on the flyer that are not true." Caisse told the board that under state law the party responsible for a mailing must be listed on the flyer and that committees should bring plans for distribution to the Select Board for prior approval. "It is the law to include the party responsible for the mailing on the flyer," he said.
The board directed staff to review the relevant New Hampshire RSA(s) and prepare a memo to boards and committees outlining the new procedure; the memo is scheduled for review at the next Select Board meeting. The minutes do not record who produced the disputed flyer or any response from the flyer’s originator.
Next step: Select Board staff will review statutory requirements and draft the memo for the board to consider at its May 26 meeting.
