Board reviews annual MOUs, adopts legislative change to increase personal days to four

The Natchitoches Parish School Board reviewed a series of routine annual agreements and a legislative change to personnel policy during its July 7 meeting.
Superintendent staff described annual memoranda of understanding for the 2026-27 school year that the district will sign with dual-enrollment partners (BIPSI and NSU), a Jobs for American Graduates (JAG) grant MOU with the Louisiana Department of Education, an annual agreement with Career Compass (a nonprofit that connects students with private-sector work experiences), and an agreement to host DARE programming with the sheriff's office.
On personnel policy, the superintendent asked the board to adopt a legislative change amending policy 707.40 to increase employee personal days from two days to four days; he said this change does not increase total leave but reclassifies two days of sick leave as personal days. "They now have moved that from 2 days to 4 days," the superintendent said, noting the personal days do not accumulate from year to year.
The superintendent also notified the board that it may enter executive session next week under a cited statutory provision for an expulsion appeal (citation in the transcript: "la.rs 40 2 17"). He said hunting leases will be added to next week's agenda, legal counsel will attend the executive session, and staff will present the 2026-27 budget at the next meeting.
