District reports robust summer programs, enrollment and measurable gains in some courses
Summary
Superintendent and district staff reviewed summer programming that served hundreds of children across multiple programs, reported increased meal counts and described notable pre/post gains in an Elevate summer math class.
District administrators described a broad slate of summer programs and reported participation and preliminary outcome data at the board meeting.
Dr. Summer Stevens summarized elementary and secondary summer offerings, including Summer Strong (Title I elementary program), Power Camp (grades 2–5), Elevate Summer School (EL/immigrant students), extended school year special-education programming, Jumpstart kindergarten and high-school recovery and Momentum/credit-recovery offerings. Staff reported counts such as 243 students served by Summer Strong (average daily attendance ~190), roughly 250 students at Power Camp and 117 students in Elevate. Nutrition staff reported serving about 280 more meals in June than the previous year.
District presenters cited one pre/post example in a secondary math class that rose from 22% proficiency (pretest) to a 74% average at the end of the course, noting that summer instruction can produce measurable learning gains. Presenters also described partnerships for student health services (Heartland Health Center, Saint Francis) and workforce-internship opportunities coordinated through vocational rehabilitation grants.
