The Police Commission authorized issuing requests for proposals for towing services after the town council approved Resolution 2026-06-23 on June 23, 2026 to increase towing service fees.
The commission established a procurement timeline: proposals are due Friday, July 31; submissions will be opened at the commission meeting on Aug. 12 at 4:30 p.m.; the commission plans to recommend finalists to the town council on Wednesday, Sept. 9; and the council is tentatively scheduled to consider final approval of towing contracts on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Commission discussion noted that Stan’s is the only towing company currently operating inside St John town limits and that another provider operates just outside town in Schererville. The commission said its ordinance allows up to three contracted tow providers, though only one is currently used.
The commission moved to accept and proceed with the published RFPs for towing services; the motion passed on a voice vote.
Next steps: interested tow companies have until July 31 to submit proposals; the commission will open submissions on Aug. 12 and forward recommendations to the council on Sept. 9.
