Cushing selectmen accept winter-materials bids, confirm Lane Construction paving deadline with penalties

Chairman Alton Grover read salt bids and the board accepted the low salt bid from New England Salt Co., LLC at $64.95 per ton. The board also accepted Heartland’s sand bid at $11.00 per cubic yard, which the bidder stated includes use of a dozer. Both procurement motions passed unanimously (5-0-0).
On road work, Chairman Alton Grover reported that Lane Construction has signed the paving contract and is scheduled to complete the work by July 30, 2015; the contract includes a liquidated-damages provision of $100 per day for missed completion. Grover asked Lane Construction to inspect a bump on Spear Mill Road and report back.
Resident Daniel Remian asked whether the paving contract includes an inspection clause; Chairman Grover replied the contract does not include an inspection clause but that he spoke with John Wood from the State about prior projects and said the contractor will use binder, not a sand mix, in Cushing.
