Cushing Selectmen schedule May 26 special town meeting to seek approval for ambulance monitor/defibrillator funding

The Cushing Selectmen voted April 27 to reschedule their regular May meeting from May 25 to Tuesday, May 26, 2015, and to hold a special town meeting at 6:00 p.m. before that meeting to seek approval from the legislative body to use money from the Ambulance Replacement Account toward the purchase of a monitor/defibrillator for the rescue squad.
Chairman Alton Grover told the board that, after a March 23 Selectmen vote to guarantee funding for half the cost of a monitor/defibrillator, he read a report in the Maine's Townsman indicating the Selectmen may not have had authority to make that commitment and that formal approval must come from the legislative body. Selectman Daniel Staples moved to change the date and hold the special town meeting; Selectman Heidi Alley seconded. The motion carried 5-0-0.
The April 27 minutes do not include a dollar amount for the monitor/defibrillator or a final procurement decision; they record only the scheduling of the special town meeting so the town’s legislative body can vote on use of Ambulance Replacement Account funds. The board did not alter the posted purpose of the May meeting other than the date change; residents should consult the warrant for the special town meeting for particulars when it is posted.
