Cushing selectmen rescind authorization to inspect 1993 pumper-tanker, ask for research on newer trucks

Chairman Alton Grover and the Town of Cushing Selectmen voted 5-0 on Aug. 10 to rescind a prior authorization to send three town representatives to West Virginia to inspect and potentially buy a 1993 pumper-tanker fire truck. The board said members were concerned the truck's 1993 model year could leave the department in a similar position again in a few years.
Selectman Laurie Haynes told the board she had searched online for pumper trucks from about 2000 onward and found options closer to Cushing priced around $70,000 to $100,000. Fire Chief Kiskila told the board that any replacement truck should have at least a 1,500-gallon tank and preferably a Hale 1,500 GPM pump.
After discussion, Selectman Daniel Staples moved and Selectman Laurie Haynes seconded a motion to rescind the prior meeting's approval to send three men to West Virginia to look at the 1993 tanker; the motion carried 5-0-0. The board directed Selectmen Laurie Haynes and Heidi Alley to continue researching available trucks online and asked the Fire Department to gather and deliver specifications and local options to the Selectmen before the next meeting.
