Mayor Angela Kirk opened the Jan. 12, 2026 Obetz City Council meeting by swearing in returning council members and thanking those who participated in the ceremony.
Todd Gibbs was sworn in to his second term as a council member. Robert Kramer was sworn in to his third term by Meredith Lawson-Rowe (identified in the minutes as "Ohio House District 5"); Mike Kimbler and Guiles Richardson were sworn in by Michele Reynolds (identified as "Ohio Senate District 3").
Council then took up procedural business. Councilmember Todd Gibbs moved to approve the Dec. 15, 2025 minutes; the motion passed unanimously. Later in the meeting, Mr. Gibbs nominated Derek Varney for Council President Pro-Tem; Mr. Kimbler seconded the nomination and a voice vote elected Varney unanimously.
During administration reports, Law Director Eugene Hollins reminded newly elected and re-elected officials that public records training is required and recommended Stacey Boumis as the city's representative; Boumis was nominated and confirmed. Community Services Director Stacey Boumis noted a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday and said significant development activity is expected in 2026.
Public comment included a brief appearance by Lucas Borton of Boy Scout Troop 526, who said attending the meeting counts toward an Eagle Scout merit badge requirement; Mayor Kirk thanked him for attending. The council adjourned following the scheduled business; minutes record adjournment at 5:28 PM.
