Town manager reports small budget transfer, Cambria Field bid progress and FAMLI cost estimate

At the March 9 meeting Town Manager Barb Matthews reported a brief financial adjustment and several project updates. She said the town transferred $2,874 from the Contingency Account to Overtime to address a shortfall in February 2026. Matthews also noted a March 2 pre-construction meeting with the county erosion and sediment control inspector and said Clark I Azar and Associates, the town's civil engineering firm, expects to finalize the Cambria Field renovation bid package in the coming weeks.
Matthews advised that the Maryland Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Program will begin collecting employer contributions in January 2027; the town's annual cost was estimated at about $2,500. Matthews also placed in each councilmember's packet a written update from Wiedemann Architects LLC regarding the Town Hall renovation project and said Mayor Keller and volunteer architect Karl Miller had been assisting with appliance and fixture selections.
Councilmember John Stroud separately reported that he testified before the MCPS Board of Education on March 9 regarding the county boundary study and thanked residents and the Citizens Association for their engagement. He said the MCPS superintendent had recommended an option that would keep Garrett Park unified with nearby neighbors but that no final decision date was announced; a community meeting was scheduled for March 10, 2026.
