Cushing selectmen decide to continue mowing near Pleasant View Cemetery after resident request

Chairman Alton Grover said a woman asked the Cemetery Board chair that the town stop mowing a field adjacent to Pleasant View Cemetery because blueberries grow there. The request was raised during Other Business at the June 8 Selectmen meeting.
The board discussed the timing and history of the mowing and decided to keep the existing practice. Grover said the town typically bush‑hogs the field in July when the contractor who operates the mower is working on Davis Point Road; Selectman Laurie Haynes said families with loved ones buried at the cemetery appreciate the regular mowing because it keeps the site looking neat. The Selectmen did not adopt a new policy and indicated they will proceed as in past years.
Grover also reported a separate maintenance issue: a large limb hanging over Killeran Cemetery on Killeran Lane requires a bucket truck; Grover said he contacted Nathaniel Benner to remove the limb. The board did not take additional formal action on cemetery maintenance at the June 8 meeting.
The board will revisit related cemetery concerns next meeting when absent members can be present: Haynes asked that Selectman Daniel Staples report back on alders growing on lots at Pleasant View Cemetery.
