Harmony EDA votes to offer $1,000 to SMIF for volunteer-led 'Free Notes' park project

The Harmony Economic Development Authority agreed on Sept. 6 to offer $1,000 of EDA funds to the City Council to be donated to the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) in support of a volunteer-led "Free Notes" park equipment project.
Chris Giesen presented the SMIF Small Town Grant application materials for the board's information. Board member Steve Donney moved that the EDA offer $1,000 to the city council for donation to SMIF; Chair Chris Skaalen seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.
The board discussed the donation in the context of local support for volunteer-led placemaking projects. The motion authorized EDA staff to inform the City Council of the offered contribution; the council retains authority to accept and execute the donation.
