Harmony EDA hears fiber-optic update; board to market industrial lots as 'fiber ready'

The Harmony Economic Development Authority heard an update on Sept. 6 that the townwide fiber-optic installation is on schedule to begin this fall, but work depends on permits from the state highway department because some installation will occur in highway right-of-way. Jill Fishbaugher, representing Harmony Telephone Company, told the board the timeline remains intact pending those permits.
The board agreed that, once installation is complete, industrial-park signage should indicate lots are "fiber ready." Chair Chris Skaalen asked whether staff should notify current industrial-park prospects so they could plan for the availability of high-speed service; the board concurred.
The update did not include a revised project start date or new cost figures; board members asked staff to follow up on the permit status and to include the "fiber ready" designation in marketing materials for industrial sites.
