Wausau unveils interactive map of Business Campus parcels to aid developers

The presentation, given by a city staff member identified in the meeting transcript as Randy, walked members through how residents and prospective developers can access parcel details under the Development Division page. Randy said the site highlights property features (zoning and future land use), utility information where available (for example, a 16-inch water main on Innovation Way), and maps delineating wetlands adjacent to certain lots.
Alder Neal praised the tool's usefulness for active seekers but urged the city to reach those who are not already searching. "If we had like a monthly or quarterly electronic newsletter" that packaged photos, metrics and contact information, Neal said, "that could open a door for us." Randy acknowledged that outreach requires staff time and budget prioritization and that the city also monitors privately listed properties through subscriptions to Crexi and LoopNet.
The staff presentation noted several privately listed parcels within the campus that have remained on the market for extended periods (one warehousing facility noted as 917 days on the market) and described how the city submits candidate sites in response to external RFPs. Committee members said they appreciated the added detail on utilities and wetlands and encouraged staff to prioritize outreach within available budgets.
The committee did not take formal action on the presentation.
The city plans to continue maintaining the online resource and to receive additional direction from the committee about outreach priorities and budget allocation.
