The Avon Town Council on Jan. 8 approved pay ranges recommended by a classification and compensation study that consolidates the town's job grades from roughly 22 levels to 10 and covers about 60 non-union positions.
Council members emphasized the vote authorized ranges only, not the mechanics or timing of cost implementation. The Town Manager said the administration will address implementation costs during the FY 26/27 budget process; an approximate cost to bring staff into the new ranges was stated as $180,000. The manager and members said the ranges are based on comparable towns (55% benchmark cited) and are intended to improve retention and pay equity.
On a motion by Council member Ausiello, seconded by Council member Weber, the Council voted in favor (Ausiello, Barthel, Bratton, Polhamus and Weber) to approve the proposed pay ranges. Council and staff agreed the actual timing and source of funds for step increases or one-time adjustments will be determined during budgeting.
