Council approves proclamations, a $2,000 Juneteenth contribution and several routine actions

The Avon Town Council on March 5 approved a number of routine but community‑facing measures, including ceremonial recognition, event support, appointments and administrative votes.
Chairman Dan Polhamus read a proclamation declaring March 12, 2026 Girl Scout Day to mark the 114th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the United States of America; the council approved the proclamation unanimously.
Council approved contributing $2,000 to the 2026 Farmington Valley Juneteenth Celebration; the Town Manager’s Office will identify the budget source. The council also appointed Heidi Zacchera as Town Council Representative for Senior Citizens through December 31, 2027 and tabled appointments to the Affordable Housing Task Force and the Central Regional Tourism District to the March 31 meeting.
Council set a public hearing for March 31, 2026 to consider acceptance of a sanitary sewer easement for property located at 124 Hollister Drive. The council also approved real estate tax refunds totaling $33,501.38 to three payees (Aquino Franceasco $4,451.37; Cotality Refunds Dept $14,816.59; Northwest Community Bank $14,233.42).
The meeting moved into executive session at 9:09 p.m. to discuss a pending claim/litigation related to 24 Brentwood Drive and adjourned at 9:38 p.m.
