The Houston City Council on May 4 approved the park board’s appointment of Anthony Hagen as the city’s Parks and Pool Director. Alderman Don Romines moved to approve the appointment and Alderwoman Ann Tottingham seconded; the motion carried with five yes votes (Alderman Fred Stottlemyre, Alderwoman Chelsye Scantlin, Alderwoman Sheila Walker, Alderwoman Ann Tottingham, Alderman Don Romines).
The council also voted to solicit bids for replacing shingles on two pavilions at Emmett Kelly Park and noted that playground equipment for parks will be on the June 1, 2026 agenda. These items were presented during the parks portion of the meeting and advanced by council motion.
