Committee backs amendments to sign ordinance to streamline approvals

The Village of Bonduel Committee of the Whole on Jan. 28 recommended amending Zoning Code ordinance 115 to specify sign types and to simplify the approval process by establishing a single approval point at the Village Board.
Director of Municipal Operations Jesse Rankin told the committee the current sign ordinance does not list the various sign types that can be applied for and requires multiple approvals, beginning with the Plan Commission and advancing to the Village Board. Rankin said a single point of approval would speed the request process.
Committee members agreed that the Village Board, which meets regularly, would be an appropriate final approval body for sign requests. Kay Zuleger moved, and Michelle Streetman seconded, to recommend amendments to sections 115.1 and 115.24 to include sign definitions and to change the process so Village Board approval is the single approval point. The motion carried unanimously.
Next steps: The recommendation will be forwarded to the Village Board for drafting and formal consideration of ordinance amendments.
