Commissioners reported July 8 on a recent economic development assessment of Clark Park properties as part of planning for a new animal shelter.
A commission member summarized the consultant's findings, saying the firm assessed 16 parcels in Clark Park and concluded only one appeared viable for development. "Most of the other ones are too heavy or wetlands or just, you know, not feasible," the member said. The existing animal shelter property was described as nonconforming and very wet; the consultant noted soils and drainage issues.
Commissioners said the shelter recently failed an inspection and that the matter is rising in priority. They plan a joint meeting with economic development staff (Janice) and Dan Carter to clarify options and next steps and to review the one parcel that may be feasible. No site or acquisition decision was made at the meeting.
The commission agreed to continue the conversation and to report back at a future meeting once staff and stakeholders have had a chance to meet and review options.
No votes or formal commitments of funding were taken.
