Piscataway superintendent outlines device-ban rollout, early-literacy push and rising summer enrollment

The superintendent reported to the Piscataway Township School District Board of Education that guidance has arrived about New Jersey’s Internet-enabled device ban and that the district will provide more detailed direction to families and staff before the 2026–27 school year. He said the district plans to begin enforcement when students return, naming 09/02/2026 as the expected start for bell-to-bell implementation.
The superintendent identified two academic priorities for younger students: early literacy and early numeracy (targeted at pre-K through third grade) and said the district will share specific expectations and programs in the superintendent’s August materials and through community conversations.
On emergency response, the superintendent praised district staff for their response to recent regional storms, saying staff relocated students as needed and prepared buildings for resumption of programs. He named staff members commended for their work, including Robert Earn and David Aldivir, and credited teachers and custodial staff for helping reopen classrooms.
The superintendent provided corrected summer-program enrollment figures for the record: 107 participants in summer 2024, 164 in summer 2025, and 232 enrolled as of the current reporting date. He said programming has expanded and been intentionally tied to academics but that some program-level details remain to be finalized and will appear in written reports.
The superintendent closed by directing the public and board to the written superintendent’s report for additional details and by saying the district will hold further community conversations and release formal guidance on the device policy in August.
