Police Chief Neil Dryfe reviewed police technology and facility items, including replacement of four core network switches estimated at $28,000, the second year of a state‑mandated body‑worn camera rollout and renovations needed at the municipal animal control facility to comply with new state regulations.
Fire Chief Bruce Appell and Assistant Chief Joe Speich outlined the department’s capital needs: Tanker 20 (a 1997 unit past its recommended replacement date) is included as a multi‑year request with a total project cost cited at $895,000; an Engine 11 repaint and several building repairs were also requested to extend apparatus life and improve volunteer safety.
Assistant Town Manager Grace Tiezzi reviewed general government requests, including emergency shelter kits for Avon High School (FY27 request $33,633) and an $80,000 request for design work on an Emergency Power Generator Fund to provide full backup power to Avon High School, plus phased Building #1 renovations identified for multi‑year funding.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about changed cost estimates, grant opportunities, and project timelines; staff said further details and refined estimates will be provided in the budget workshop schedule.
