The Alta Town Council voted to adopt an amended property-tax impact schedule that staff posted with the consolidated notice required by state review.
Town staff said updated valuation information from the county changed the town’s increase amount to $92,820, which staff characterized as a 22.56% change compared with the previous schedule. As an illustrative example provided in the meeting, staff said a home valued at $1,785,000 with the primary-residence exemption would see a tax increase of about $176; the same valuation without exemption or for business property would increase by about $321, according to the document discussed and posted to the town website.
Council members asked where the ‘‘average value’’ figure came from; staff confirmed the numbers were from the county assessor’s office and noted the consolidated ad and impact schedule had been posted online and at the meeting entrance so the state review would show the document was shared publicly.
A council member moved to adopt the resolution amending the impact schedule (referred to in the meeting as Resolution 20-26-Romeo-25). The council conducted a roll-call vote with recorded affirmative responses and the motion passed.
Staff and council discussed public outreach and the impact schedule’s explanation of potential budget cuts if the rate were not adopted. The council also set a public hearing on property taxes for 6 p.m. the day before the next regular meeting on Aug. 12.
