Conservation and trails updates: DNR reports minimal activity; alliance reports trail maintenance progress

Bridal Fisher, sitting in for Craig Morris, delivered the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources report and said DNR staff completed over 108% of time-standards goals in the fiscal year and are continuing timber sale establishment and reconnaissance work. Fisher emphasized that oak-wilt restrictions remain in place until July 15 and urged landowners who notice oak tree wounding or premature leaf drop to contact DNR forestry staff for evaluation.
Jane Schrader, speaking for the Sawyer County Snowmobile and ATV Alliance, said trail activity and maintenance are proceeding well. She reported grading work completed on the Toscopia and Moose Lake areas, with the next scheduled work at Seeley Hills, and said some brushing and other maintenance would resume after July 15.
Conservation staff member Jay reported increased interest in native-plant restoration projects, ongoing grading-permit reviews and 135 compliance checks, and that water samples from Lake Loretta and Barber Lake were sent to Stevens Point for analysis under a lake quality grant. Jay said the county EIS coordinator staffed an outreach booth at Muskyfest and that staff are planning a fall conservation tour for committee members. He also said DNR staff will present additional information on livestock-siting regulations and concentrated animal feeding operations in coming months.
Committee members did not vote on these reports; staff will follow up on scheduled presentations and monitoring work.
