CJCC approves minutes, notes jail trends and plans budget priorities for county board

The Sawyer County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council approved the minutes from its June 10 meeting by voice vote after a motion by one member and a second by another, with Chair announcing the motion carried.
Members reviewed jail-report materials in the packet but noted no jail staff were present; they discussed a recent in-custody increase and agreed seasonal tourism likely explains short-term spikes while overall June figures were down compared with the previous year. The council also discussed challenges reestablishing Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) capacity after post-COVID staffing losses and described plans to certify North Lakes providers so CCS billable services can be accessed by eligible clients.
Regarding budgets, members asked county finance contacts to provide preliminary department numbers at month-end; the CJCC agreed to develop and forward a short list of program priorities (mental-health services in the jail, recovery court support and community prevention) to the county board during the August/September budget process so the board can consider CJCC priorities when setting allocations.
