Staff reports: trail projects, kayak dock, invasive-species work, ECR projects and film crew

City staff and board members reported a series of routine operations and community-program updates at the June 10 meeting.
Planning and Zoning Administrator Scott Kochendorfer said the mountain bike trail project remains pending some administrative DNR procedures and is not yet out for bids. He reported a new kayak dock and fishing pier have been installed on the east end of Miners Lake and are seeing heavy informal use. Kochendorfer said an invasive-species treatment took place and that native grasses would be planted this fall in partnership with North St. Louis County Soil and Water and Ely Folk School.
Jill Swanson updated the board on Ely Community Recreation (ECR) activities: students in grades 7–10 built an arcade game for the rec center and ECR plans to paint the lower Semers Pavilion exterior; ECR has placed canoes and life jackets for program use and is assessing potential rentals pending liability review. Kochendorfer said a film crew will use Semers Park and some Ely welcome signs on June 26 and asked staff to coordinate mowing and floral displays with Garden Club and public works. Whiteside Park grills have been installed, playground equipment at Semers has a temporary repair while parts are located, docks are in, and swim buoys will be placed soon.
The board did not take formal action on these items but expressed general support and asked staff to return with designs or schedule details where appropriate.
