Keith, the police chief and emergency-management lead, briefed council on two vacancies: one officer had already left the department and another is departing in mid-August. He presented two vetted candidates from a certified civil-service list — one who has entered the police academy (township would pay academy costs as in prior practice) and one who has recently graduated — and requested authorization to extend conditional offers subject to standard requirements (physical, psychological, and background checks).
Council members voiced unanimous support for quickly moving forward. Solicitors and civil-service staff confirmed conditional offers are consistent with the certified list and that necessary background checks and examinations would proceed before final appointment. One council member noted the importance of keeping candidates in the pipeline to avoid losing them to competing departments.
No formal motion was recorded at the workshop; council indicated it was comfortable with staff proceeding under existing hiring protocols and that the hires would be finalized once conditional checks are satisfied.
