Ogdensburg appoints temporary code enforcement officer through February

The Borough of Ogdensburg on Aug. 23 adopted Resolution 57-2021 to appoint Thomas S. Dixon as a part-time temporary Code Enforcement Officer and Zoning Officer, effective Aug. 24, 2021, through Feb. 24, 2022.
The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Councilwoman Slater and seconded by Councilman DeMeo. Mayor George P. Hutnick said the temporary appointee will take over zoning, code enforcement and housing duties previously handled by the prior officer, who retired July 30, 2021. The council approved the appointment by roll call: Yeas — Cowdrick, DeMeo, Nardini, Slater; Absent — Alvarez, Nasisi.
Under the resolution, Dixon will be paid $30.00 per hour and scheduled for up to four hours per week during the six-month term, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 4A:4-1.7. The appointment document states the temporary appointee must meet the minimum qualifications and licensing requirements for the position and that the six-month limit applies in a 12-month period.
Council members said the six-month term gives the borough time to coordinate with Civil Service regarding longer-term staffing options. No public comment was offered on the resolution.
Next steps: Council records show the temporary appointment begins Aug. 24, 2021; the borough will revisit staffing and Civil Service requirements before the term expires on Feb. 24, 2022.
