Council explores generators for Center Street and firehouse, seeks grant options

Councilman Alfonse Nardini raised new-business inquiries about obtaining generators for Center Street and the Fire House during the Aug. 9 meeting and said he had begun outreach to utility and legislative offices.
Nardini said he spoke with a contact at JCP&L (referred to as "Jackie") about potential availability and that he had contacted U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s office and was awaiting a response. He added that Senator Steve Oroho indicated there was no State funding available for the project. Council discussed asking the County Emergency Management Office about generator availability or grants; Nardini said an initial County response indicated the available units might be too small, but that he would follow up on potential grant opportunities.
Mayor George P. Hutnick asked whether the council had spoken with the County OEM coordinator; Councilman Nardini said he had and that the county is pursuing options. The council did not approve funding or a purchase at the meeting; members instructed staff to continue grant research and to report back at a future meeting.
