Ogdensburg council tables fire-prevention ordinance, introduces events advisory committee ordinance

The Ogdensburg Borough Council on Aug. 9 postponed consideration of a proposed rewrite of the Borough’s Fire Prevention and Protection chapter and introduced a separate ordinance to establish a Community and Cultural Events Advisory Committee.
Borough Attorney Robert McBriar told the council that he had submitted a draft of Ordinance 08‑2021 to the New Jersey Division of Fire and received suggested changes that remained under review. To avoid reintroducing the ordinance with further edits, Mr. McBriar recommended tabling the measure until the Division completes its review. Councilwoman Rachel Slater moved to table Ordinance 08‑2021; Councilman Alfonse DeMeo seconded. The roll call to table recorded Yeas from Councilmembers Alvarez, DeMeo, Nardini and Slater; Cowdrick and Nasisi were absent.
Separately, Councilwoman Slater moved to introduce Ordinance 09‑2021, "An Ordinance of the Borough of Ogdensburg amending and supplementing Chapter 2, Article V of the Borough Code entitled 'Boards, Committees and Commissions' to establish a Community and Cultural Events Advisory Committee." Councilman DeMeo seconded the motion. The council voted to introduce the ordinance and scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 23, 2021.
What’s next: Ordinance 08‑2021 will be held until the Division of Fire provides final comments and the council may reintroduce at a future meeting. Ordinance 09‑2021 will proceed to a public hearing on Aug. 23 where council will take public comment and consider final adoption.
