Zeeland plans murals and issues RFP for Main Street Auto site; parade route adjusted for construction

The Marketing Department announced a Mural Project with a $25,000 budget and the intent to create two murals this year, targeting the southeast wall of 122 E. Main (Adorned Home) and a removable mural to be suspended in the passageway at 137 W. Main. The board discussed locations and the call-to-artists process; the city will make Call to Artists applications available soon.
Staff also said they are preparing a request for proposals for the Main Street Auto property at 303 E. Main. The RFP was planned for publication on May 5, 2026, with proposals due June 30, 2026. Staff stated the current building would be torn down and replaced with a multi-story structure; two privately owned homes adjacent to the property might be included in a redevelopment package if the property owners agree to sell.
Separately, members discussed the Memorial Day Parade route and said that construction on Church St. requires the parade to avoid Central Ave.; the route will instead run along Lincoln St.
City staff will follow up on Call to Artists timing and the RFP schedule; the board noted an April meeting could be necessary to meet procurement timelines.
