Zeeland Elections Commission approves receiving board, AVCB and combines precincts for May 5 special election

The Zeeland Elections Commission unanimously approved three resolutions on Feb. 16 establishing election procedures for 2026 and reorganizing local precincts ahead of a May special election.
City Clerk Kristi DeVerney called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. and recorded a full roll call: Mayor VanDorp, Attorney Donkersloot and City Clerk Kristi DeVerney were present.
The commission first approved minutes from its Sept. 4, 2025 meeting after a motion by Mayor VanDorp and a second from Attorney Donkersloot; all three members voted aye.
Under new business the commission approved Resolution 2026-10, designating the receiving board for the 2026 elections. Mayor VanDorp moved the resolution and Attorney Donkersloot seconded; the motion carried with VanDorp, Donkersloot and DeVerney voting yes.
The panel then approved Resolution 2026-11 concerning the AVCB for the 2026 elections. That measure also passed on a unanimous vote following a motion by Mayor VanDorp and a second from Attorney Donkersloot.
Finally, the commission approved Resolution 2026-12 to combine Precincts 1 and 2 for the May 5, 2026 special election. The motion was moved by Mayor VanDorp, seconded by Attorney Donkersloot and carried unanimously.
There were no additional items under "Other Items." Attorney Donkersloot moved to adjourn; Mayor VanDorp seconded, and the meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
