Zeeland board highlights state "Match on Main" grant; April 20 city deadline

Marketing Director deRoo told the Shopping Area Redevelopment Board on March 12 that the State is offering a reimbursement grant for qualified downtown applicants, covering up to $25,000 per business with a required 10% applicant match.
The grant—called a reimbursement program for activating new space or expanding existing businesses—covers uses such as main-floor improvements, expansion into new space, patio additions and technology upgrades. Points are awarded to applications that demonstrate community benefit, deRoo said.
The City of Zeeland may submit up to two business applications to the State, but the State may select only one awardee. DeRoo said the city must submit its candidate selections to the State by April 20, 2026. Businesses that are not chosen this round may reapply next year if the program remains available.
The board did not take a formal vote on specific applicant nominations during the March 12 meeting. City staff will manage the application process and notify the board if an additional meeting is needed before the April 20 deadline.
