Shelby City Council approves $264,515 pay request, $5,000 housing loan and employee raise

Shelby City Council approved several routine financial measures and a personnel pay increase at a June 27, 2023 meeting that lasted about two hours.

The council voted unanimously to approve Pay Request #01 to contractor Leroy & Sons for $264,515.25 and Change Order #01 adding two concrete aprons for $3,320.00. Council also approved Precision Pay App #01 for $159,187.23. All motions passed on roll call with "all ayes." These actions were moved and seconded by council members as recorded in the minutes.

In other business the council approved a $5,000 forgivable housing loan to Paula and Bob Deom for the property at 500 Davenport. Council member Rick Kiesel moved the loan approval; Council member Karen Schlueter seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

The council renewed the Loves cigarette permit and approved the June 27 claims list. Members also set the July council meeting for July 10 at 7 p.m. because of the July 4 holiday.

On personnel matters the council approved a $1.02 hourly raise for part-time employee Michelle Mantell, increasing her wage to $19.00 per hour. The raise was approved on a recorded motion with all members voting in favor.

The meeting opened with a roll call that listed Council members Chris Evans, Jackie Hursey, Karen Schlueter, Rick Kiesel and Pat Honeywell as present. Mayor Ron Kroll asked whether any council member had a conflict of interest; none were declared. The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.

Next steps: the council will meet on July 10 at 7 p.m.; there were no further formal actions recorded at the June 27 session.
