Patrick Tortorese told the Dyer Park Board that organizers are finalizing plans for the Dyer Fitness Festival and asked for the town’s help promoting the event.
Tortorese described a day of health-focused activities in Central Park on Saturday, September 12, including two 5K runs (one powder/color run and a glow-stick run), a one-mile walk and a series of noncompetitive try-it-out challenges. He said a participant—identified by organizers as "the gentleman you met, Andy"—is attempting multiple Guinness World Records and that Guinness representatives will attend the festival.
Tortorese said the festival is free to attend; only race entries require a fee, and he said proceeds from race fees will support a clean-water initiative. He asked the board to circulate a digital flyer, provide volunteer help (sign-ups, water distribution), and coordinate pavilion and field usage with staff.
Board members and residents raised logistics and field-condition concerns, and confirmed the event will be held in Central Park with a plan to minimize impact on field availability. One resident asked about rain plans; Tortorese said past events have continued through heavy rain and the group can pivot to a fun-run format or use sheltered areas if necessary.
The board offered to help publicize the event and several residents volunteered to assist with stationing and water distribution.
Tortorese said organizers hope the festival will bring recognition to Dyer and provide a community health focus while raising funds for local clean-water work.
