The Canaan Trustees of the Trust Fund met May 20, 2026, at the Mascoma Senior Center and set their annual investment review with Bar Harbor Bank and Trust for Aug. 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. Trustee Cindy Neily announced the date and location and said the meeting will replace the trustees’ normal August meeting.
The meeting also addressed a request from the town attorney, Shawn Tanguay, for historical information on expenditures from cemetery funds. Trustee Nick Lavalley raised the email and, after discussion, agreed to draft and send a response explaining that reimbursements to the town come from income generated by the trust accounts during the applicable calendar year and describing how that distribution is handled.
Trustees noted that the Cemetery Trustees had met earlier at 4:30 p.m. at the Mascoma Senior Center and that those minutes contain the separate cemetery meeting’s discussion and records.
The trustees confirmed their next scheduled meeting for June 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. at Canaan Town Hall. The meeting adjourned at 6:57 p.m. after a motion to adjourn by Trustee Cindy Neily, seconded by Trustee Nick Lavalley; the motion passed unanimously.
