Goose Pond Road cost jumps to $5.4 million; Select Board recommends phasing work

At its May 19 meeting the Canaan Select Board discussed a significant cost variance for the Goose Pond Road construction project and recommended dividing the work into phases.
Select Board member Sadie Wells and Town Administrator Jack Wozmak noted the project was previously reported as part of a $2.7 million bond package combined with Switch Road and River Road. The minutes state that the Goose Pond Road project alone is now estimated at $5.4 million, creating a large budget variance and prompting a recommendation to separate the work into Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Wozmak will contact HEB Engineering to confirm the status of design work. Resident Dan Collins told the board he believes damage to Goose Pond Road was caused in part by trucks associated with the Goose Pond dam project and asked that the town repair that damage. Select Board member Scott Johnston said he will review any agreements with the state relating to responsibility for damage tied to the dam work.
