Candia selectmen approve $8,900 restoration contract for Soldiers Monument

The Candia Board of Selectmen voted June 22 to approve a contract with Vinnetti’s to restore the town’s Soldiers Monument, using funds from the General Maintenance Fund.
Carla Penfield told the board that roughly $16,000 is available in the General Maintenance Fund and urged prompt repairs, saying delaying work would lead to greater damage and higher costs. She presented a restoration quote of $8,900 and recommended hiring a contractor to clean the monument every two years to reduce long‑term expenses. Penfield also suggested the board consider a warrant article next year to rebuild the General Maintenance Fund.
Selectman Boyd Chivers moved to approve the contract and use the General Maintenance Fund; Selectman Patrick Moran seconded. The motion carried 5-0. Penfield noted the Board of Selectmen has oversight of the monument because the Heritage Commission no longer meets.
