Candia moves to require town blasting permits for Granite Hill project

The Candia Board of Selectmen voted unanimously on June 22 to adopt a town-level blasting-permit process after Fire Chief Michael Kelley reviewed plans for the Granite Hill project.
Kelley told the board that the Land Use Office asked the Fire Department to review plans that include blasting and that the town currently lacks a local permit process. He cited RSA 158:9 and said the state permit alone is not sufficient; the statute requires both a state and a town permit. Under the adopted approach, applicants will come to the Fire Department with required information, complete a town blasting-permit application and allow the Fire Department to inspect the site. Kelley said there will be no fee attached to the town permit.
Selectman Boyd Chivers moved to accept the Fire Chief’s recommendation; Selectman Stephanie Helmig seconded. The motion carried 5-0.
