During the March 20 work session, the Dawson County chair announced several board appointment recommendations and administrative items for the upcoming voting session.
Appointments: The chair recommended Kathy Lynn to replace Sam Guthrie on the tax assessors board (term through Dec. 2025); Brent Covington to replace Jim Perdue (term through Dec. 2026); Mark Sussman to replace Tom Kemp (term through Dec. 2027); and Jill Alexander to the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Region 1 advisory council (term through Dec. 2027). The chair said the recommendations and candidate information are in the board packet and would be brought forward at the voting session.
LegacyLink FY26 request: Don Johnson, senior services director, presented Dawson County's FY26 LegacyLink local share request of $16,000 and asked the board to place the commitment letter on the next voting session agenda. Johnson said the $16,000 is the county's standard local share to support LegacyLink-administered programs beginning 07/01/2025.
Staffing update: County manager Joy reported the fire department is fully staffed with 40 firefighters. EMS field vacancies have improved, with five new paramedics onboarded and a sixth in process; the county's field vacancy rate (excluding some administrative positions) is about 6%, down from roughly 20–25% last year. The manager said additional applicants are in the pipeline and it is conceivable vacancies could reach zero later this year.
There were no formal votes recorded during the work session segment; the appointment recommendations and the LegacyLink commitment were scheduled to appear on the voting session agenda.
