Under new business on Oct. 15, Glassport Borough Council decided to permit additional installment options for the payment of real-estate taxes, allowing either three or four payments. Council said staff will determine revised due dates and notify residents about the options.
During the public-comment period, resident Mike Tomak of 418 Broadway said he is concerned about the condition of 1010 Vermont Avenue, alleging the occupant has been "burning wires and stuff" and producing a strong smell while tarps conceal activity. Tomak asked the council to investigate conditions at the property.
Resident Betty Kaczka asked what happened to the borough’s "US Steel Money." Borough Manager Elaina Skiba responded that she would provide Kaczka with a breakdown of how that money was spent.
Why it matters: changing installment options affects how property taxpayers manage payments; staff implementation and public notice are necessary for residents to take advantage of the new schedule. Public comments raised local health and code-enforcement concerns and requested transparency on historical funding.
Next steps: borough staff will develop and publish the installment schedule details and provide a written accounting of the US Steel funds to the resident who requested it.
