Glassport Borough Council on Jan. 21 highlighted several community development grants and services that will affect local programming and facilities.
Council President Anthony Colecchi said the borough was awarded a $25,000 Allegheny Together grant to install a community garden at the old St. Cecilia site. Colecchi also noted regular service from the Giant Eagle Mobile Market and that Tree Pittsburgh will begin spring tree plantings near the old swimming pool site.
Borough Manager Elaina Skiba told council she would advertise for bids for ceiling tile and light fixture replacement projects in the borough building. Skiba said these projects are part of an $850,000 LSA grant that "Senator Pisciottano was able to help secure for the borough." The council carried the motion to advertise for bids.
Council recorded that Senator Pisciottano's staff inspected space for a satellite office in Glassport; once paperwork is completed the office will be available to residents on Wednesdays. The meeting also recorded Per Scholas's assessment of IT and electrical needs for adult computer classes expected to begin in July and that a 10-week senior center computer class began Jan. 13 with 25 participants.
No formal votes were required to note the garden award, mobile market service or the senator's pending satellite office; council approved the LSA-related bid advertisement action and will proceed with procurement steps.
