The Byron Town Council authorized the Byron Days Committee to pursue grants for a proposed south-side park memorial and approved $1,500 for Family Fun Night at its April 8 meeting.
Resident Beckie Bates updated the council on research into grants and potential ways to improve the park, including possible relocation or removal of a building on site to create space for signage and memorial features honoring recently deceased young girls. Bates recommended vendors and signage options; Councilman Shae Abraham moved that the Byron Days Committee pursue grant opportunities for the south-side park and Councilman Mikey Brightly seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Separately, Sara Davidson described costs from prior years and projected this year’s Family Fun Night expenses would not exceed $1,500. Councilman Brandon Hessenthaler moved to allow the Recreation Department $1,500 to purchase items for Family Fun Night; Councilman Shae Abraham seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Council members did not specify a timeline for grant applications or for any required park design work during the meeting; Planning staff and committee members were asked to follow up at a later date.
