Byron council swears in two members, approves reappointments and hires
Summary
At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Byron Town Council swore in two new councilmembers, reappointed the town judge, renewed law-enforcement and legal contracts, approved bills and hired office staff following a personnel change; all motions passed unanimously.
Mayor Allan Clark called the Byron Town Council to order on Jan. 14, 2025, and Judge Nick Lewis administered the oath of office to newly appointed Councilwoman Karma Sanders and Councilman Mikey Brightly.
The council approved the meeting agenda, past minutes and an amended bills list that included an Amazon Business account request and an invoice from Judge Lewis. Acting Clerk/Treasurer Kristin Sanders read required financial disclosures listing where public officers hold accounts at Big Horn Federal Savings Bank, Bank of Lovell and First Bank of Wyoming.
On motions that passed unanimously, the council reappointed Judge Nick Lewis as town judge, reappointed the Big Horn County Sheriff's Department for law-enforcement patrol and reappointed Granite Peak Law as the town attorney. The council also authorized a deposit toward the Byron Days fireworks proposal after hearing a presentation about insurance and ATF compliance.
The meeting included a personnel session. After reconvening, the council accepted the resignation of a municipal staff member identified as Misty and approved hiring Kristin Sanders as part-time Clerk-Treasurer and hiring Lexi Sanders and Tomy Pluhar as assistant Clerk-Treasurers. All votes on personnel matters were unanimous.
The meeting adjourned after the council completed scheduled business. The town packet notes no votes failed and no items were tabled; further follow-up items include appointing two Planning and Zoning board members and a grant meeting on Jan. 16 to discuss lighting and broadband next steps.
