Mayor Kilweg used the July 9 meeting to present proclamations honoring two Tallmadge High School athletes who won state titles.
The mayor recognized Anthony Bontempo as the 2026 OHSAA Division II boys high-jump champion, noting he cleared 6 feet 8 inches, and highlighted that both Bontempo and Allison (Lisonbee) Hay were among Tallmadge’s first individual state champions since 1947. The mayor invited the athletes forward for photographs and asked permission to post the proclamation on the city’s Facebook page.
"I'm so very, very proud of you guys," Mayor Kilweg said while presenting the proclamations.
The council also adopted Resolution 2026-7R congratulating the athletes; the resolution passed 6–0.
