Louisa County supervisors approve routine business, payroll changes and claims

The Louisa County Board of Supervisors conducted routine business and approved a series of motions during its Nov. 2, 2021 meeting.
By motion the board approved the meeting agenda, the Oct. 26 minutes and claims for Nov. 2. Supervisors also reviewed payroll changes, including a length-of-service pay step for Gennifer Shoppa-Garrison (from $18.07 to $18.57 per hour) and the new-hire hourly rate for Gunnar Hoffer ($27.18). The board moved to approve a Class C liquor license renewal for LD’s Bar & Grill pending DRAM compliance.
The board approved contracts obligating two sheriff deputies (Marcus Wilkins and Quintin Whittaker) to repay Law Enforcement Academy costs; the transcript notes Whittaker’s repayment is to be paid to the Muscatine Police Department. County Engineer Adam Shutt provided the weekly Secondary Roads update while supervisors reported on recent meetings and contractor visits related to the county complex.
The board examined and approved a detailed list of claims. Notable payments on the claims list included: Freedom Buildings ($49,437.31), Merschman Fertilizer ($45,917.55), River Products ($37,626.22), Helmer Inc. ($7,526.77 for a vaccine refrigerator), and a $6,500 contract payoff to the City of Muscatine for a new deputy. The claims list includes many vendors for supplies, services and equipment for county operations.
There being no further business, the board adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
Actions recorded in this meeting included approval of routine minutes and claims, personnel/payroll updates, license renewal pending DRAM, and execution of repayment contracts for deputy training costs.
