Commissioners confirm appointments and approve budget amendments including EMS salary transfer

The Northampton County Board of Commissioners approved multiple appointments and budget adjustments during the meeting.

Appointments: The board reappointed Commissioner Melvetta Broadnax Taylor to the CADRE board at her request. The board also approved reappointments of Joseph Fly and Wanda Fly to the CPTA board for terms from July 6, 2026, to July 6, 2028. In a separate vote, commissioners selected Steven Jackson to fill a vacancy on the Northampton County Board of Social Services; board members discussed Jackson’s prior service on the social services board and confirmed he wished to serve another term.

Budget amendments: Finance staff presented three budget amendments. Amendment 15 (FY2026 closeout) included additional revenue and adjustments: $88,321 in inmate housing revenue received from housing inmates for other counties, $13,676 in insurance reimbursements for damaged vehicles, a $3,682 scrap tire grant for the solid waste facility, and a school board change moving $37,656 from capital outlay to current expense. The board approved Amendment 15.

Amendment 16 covered transfers to the county’s capital fund for items including asphalt work for county buildings, HVAC repairs and an EMS ambulance capital item; the board approved Amendment 16 to ensure proper fund transfers and statutory compliance. Finance staff also presented Amendment 1 for FY2027, which moves funds for EMS salaries as previously proposed by the board; that amendment was approved.

The board approved the appointments and the budget amendments by recorded votes during the meeting. Finance staff said additional budget amendments might follow as the fiscal year closeout continues.
