Easton commissioners approve May minutes; chief reports communications upgrades and dispatch move

At its June 17 meeting the Easton Board of Fire Commissioners approved May minutes. Chief R. Klem reported 63 calls in the department incident report, progress on a townwide radio tower project, and that town dispatch operations have transitioned to FCRD; the board heard the Fire Marshal’s summer safety plan.
The Easton Board of Fire Commissioners convened on June 17 and voted to approve its May 20, 2026 minutes without change, Commissioner David Katz moved and Commissioner P. Barry seconded.
Chief R. Klem reported on operational matters, saying the department’s incident report lists 63 calls for the most recent monthly reporting period. The incident report attached to the meeting lists those calls for May 1–31, 2026; the minutes record a 63-call figure attributed to Chief Klem, and the record contains an apparent mismatch of month labels between the oral report and the incident table.
Klem summarized the radio project now under way, saying towers have been completed in town and at the Connecticut Country Club and at Sacred Heart University and that the overall radio project is expected to reach completion in the September–October timeframe. He also said the town’s dispatch operations have transitioned to FCRD and are now in operation.
On the budget, Klem told commissioners the 2025–26 budget is expected to finish a little under budget overall; he noted overtime costs are over budgeted but are being offset by savings in other line items.
The board recorded no executive session at the meeting and adjourned at 7:40 p.m. after Commissioner Katz moved to adjourn and Commissioner Buchanan seconded.
